Asphalt Green is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to assisting individuals of all ages and backgrounds achieve health through a lifetime of sports and fitness. This premier athletic complex situated on a beautiful 5½-acre campus is one of New York City’s most valuable resources, acknowledged for its unparalleled programs and expertise.
With issues of obesity and the increasingly sedentary lifestyle of Americans reaching epidemic levels, Asphalt Green is actively using its expertise to create opportunities that will help New Yorkers be more active, fit, and healthy. Asphalt Green’s diverse offerings benefit children, adults, families, individuals with disabilities, elite athletes and community members. More than just teaching and promoting physical activity, Asphalt Green is centered on the principle of informed fitness and helping individuals achieve their personal best. Their Community Programs reach people of all ages, both on our 5½-acre campus and at off-campus locations throughout New York.
Asphalt Green is home to a new, state-of-the-art FieldTurf field. Their field annually accommodates more than 79,000 visits for team sports and instructional programs in soccer, football, baseball, softball, lacrosse, and field hockey.
During the summer it is used every day by the 700 children who attend Asphalt Green’s popular day camp. Members of the public who access it for running and recreational activities as well as community organizations that borrow the field account for another 100,000 visits each year. The highlight of this new field is their Daktronics electronic billboard with multi-media capabilities located on the Northeast corner of the field.

The scoreboard allows multiple slides to be shown for a single PSA. The most visible PSAs are those that have just a few words per slide and messages that can be communicated in 1 - 4 slides. Logos can also be displayed on the scoreboard but must be 112 pixels by 48 pixels to prevent distortion or cut-off.

Equipment Specifications:
- Screens: A single Daktronics electronic scoreboard with a 3’7.44” x 9’11” GalaxyPro RGB display in the center.
- Orientation: Horizontal
- Size: 112 pixels wide by 48 pixels tall
- Types of files accepted: JPEG or other image file
- Resolution: 1366 x 768
- DPI: 72 dpi
- Font Size: 18-point font or higher
- Color: RGB; we’ve found that light backgrounds with dark letters are easiest to read
- Content: We have found that images and words do not mix well on this screen, so we recommend keeping it as simple as possible; 25 characters at 19-point type on two lines fills the screen, so we don’t recommend anything more than that per slide; we can spread the message out onto 2-3 slides if need be.
- Time on Screen: Four seconds per slide, with each slide appearing approximately eight times per hour
- Location of the screens: The scoreboard is located at the eastern end of our sports field, facing towards York Avenue.
