Mosholu Montefiore Community Center
The Mosholu Montefiore Community Center has been providing programs and services to the North Bronx since 1942. Their programs serve newborns, children, teens, adults, and senior citizens under the guidance of warm and caring professional staff.
In our city that has been assaulted by terrorists and torn by racism, anti-Semitism, ethnic isolation, drugs and insufficient health and education services, MMCC serves as a light in the darkness. They encourage all residents of the Bronx, regardless of religion, race or ethnicity, to come together in a spirit of friendship to pursue common goals and interests. They are there to help make their neighborhoods better for everyone. They also stress religious, racial, ethnic, and cultural respect for all groups who use the community center.
Over sixty years ago, a few MMCC programs were run from a storefront on Gun Hill Road, some basements on Wayne Avenue, and rented rooms in a local school. In time, the main building was built and the programs were expanded to reach a broader population base.
Today, MMCC is a multi-service agency serving people of all ages. Programs in education, self-improvement, the arts, summer camps and the boroughs largest little league, annually serve more than 20,000 Bronxites.
The MMCC main building on DeKalb Avenue, which houses classrooms, recreation rooms, computer lab, and a gymnasium, is literally bursting at the seams. MMCC also manages various other off site after school and teen programs.
MMCC is home to many collaborative efforts and also offers an impressive array of affordable camps where children and teens are treated as individuals. They establish meaningful relationships through athletics, arts and crafts, drama, music, and other healthy activities.
