Westchester Library System

Westchester Library System (WLS) advocates for excellent service at the 38 member public libraries in 44 locations that make up the county's library system. WLS is one of New York State's 23 public library systems, which were established in 1958 by State Education Law.

WLS helps members save funds through economies of scale and by sharing resources and services. Through diverse outreach programs, WLS helps local service organizations and residents from all walks of life make the most of their public library. Their services reach everyone including immigrants, bilingual speakers, children, parents, teens, low-literacy readers, career-minded adults, inmates and ex-offenders.

Over 500,000 library cardholders access WLS's extensive collection of 3.87 million items, including books, audio recordings and CDs, video cassettes, DVDs, print serials, maps, pamphlets and more.

The mission of the Westchester Library System is to ensure that all residents have seamless access to excellent library service throughout Westchester County.

The WLS will serve as a center of innovation for the Westchester County library community. It will provide model programs, affordable and easy-to-use information technology, and support services that enable libraries to continuously improve service to their communities.
